The Importance of Population Growth in Future Commercial Energy Consumption
Today, global commercial energy consumption contributes to pollution, environmental deterioration, and global greenhouse gas emissions. Increases in global commercial energy consumption are driven by population growth and economic development, which tends to increase energy use per capita. Therefore, the inevitable increase in population in the near term and the economic development that must necessarily occur in many countries poses serious implications for the environment [OTA, 1991].
