Abstract
Much of what transpires between physician and patient in the examination room is not measurable, but nonetheless, a major effort has been expended recently to understand and teach clinical evaluation.1,2 The objectives of this effort are to encourage physicians to appreciate patients in the context of their life histories, to enhance humanism and ethical conduct, and to enable physicians to communicate more effectively, especially to listen well.
