Abstract
In Health Care, Blood Banks and Blood Transfusion Services are very interested in automation systems as they are all confronted with the search for the best possible compromise between the contradictory aims of performance:
-
the continuous need for maximal security: 90 to 95% of errors are due to transcription or manual transcribing. This has to be diminished.
-
the rapidity of action: A number of blood components are very labile and their clinical need is often urgent.
-
the limited financial resources should provide the best possible means for research and investment.
