Part of the book series: Springer Series in Statistics ((SSS))

Abstract

The renewal process and variants of it have been the subject of much study, both as a model in many fields of application (e.g., see Cox, 1962; Cox and Lewis, 1966; Cox and Isham, 1980) and as a source of important theoretical problems. It is not the aim of this chapter to repeat much of the material that is available, for example, in Volume II of Feller (1966); rather, we have selected some features that either are complementary to Feller’s treatment or are relevant to more general point processes.
