Defining renal disease and renal involvement in diabetes is not an easy task, mainly because of the wide range of charges seen. The different degree of abnormalities, even with the same duration of disease, seemingly same quality of long-term metabolic control, and the same type of diabetes, is indeed striking [1–4].
