Abstract

Following the ever increasing success of the acm tournaments in 1970,1971,1972 and 1973, it was decided to inaugurate an event of World Championship status. The original suggestion was my own, made in response to a comment by Ben Mittman during the 1973 acm tournament in Atlanta: “This is great fun! What can we do next?”
