Arctic Gasteromycetes. The Genus Bovista in Greenland and Svalbard

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Environmental Science Research ((ESRH,volume 34))

Abstract

Divisions of the arctic zone and variations in climate and soil are briefly outlined. The genus Bovista is redefined by largely excluding sect. Globaria. Bovista tomentosa and B. limosa both reach the high arctic zone where they are confined to alkaline soils and subcontinental-continental climate. Bovista nigrescens is known from subarctic tracts where it grows in grassy pastures. Distribution of the species in other arctic, subarctic and alpine areas are indicated.
