Methods and Problems in the Assay of CSF for β-Endorphin and Other Endogenous Peptides
RIA is a very sensitive technique for peptide assay but can suffer from the drawback of significant cross-reactivity between related peptides. We have developed techniques that allow specific analysis of many of the peptides found in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) by combining HPLC with RIA. New methodology for raising antisera of high specificity has been developed, and used to determine the levels of peptides in CSF obtained from patients suffering pain.
