Abstract
After the liver, the spleen is the next major site of phagocytosis. This function of the spleen causes the organ to take up intravenously administered tech-netium-99m (Tc-99m) sulfur colloid. In addition, the spleen is the principal site for red cell sequestration. As a consequence, selective splenic imaging is possible after intravenous administration of Tc-99m heat-damaged red blood cells.
