Abstract

The progress of science and technology, the development of fundamental studies in cardiology during the last decade have opened new frontiers for the exploration of mechanisms of cardiovascular diseases. Today the major thrust in atherosclerosis research is aimed at developing a molecular-cellular theory, which would explain molecular and cellular processes that give rise to morpho_logical and clinical manifestations of the disease. The essence of the research boils down to the integral assessment of factors in pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. From the general to the particular and from the particular to the general — that is the way of scientific research. It is especially important to abide by this principle when studying such complex diseases as atherosclerosis.
