Abstract
Whenever we choose a unit of distance to measure the length of a line segment (as we did in the first chapter), we are also selecting a unit of area, with which we can measure the amount of space enclosed by a region in the plane. For example, if we select the centimeter as the unit of distance, the corresponding unit of area is the square centimeter.
