Abstract
Historically the development of biomagnetism is strongly connected with magnetically shielded rooms; Cohen (1967) started his pioneering work with such a room. In the last fifteen years, approximately eight shielded rooms have been built in various laboratories, and they incorporate different principles. These are:
-
a)
eddy-current shielding (used exclusively, for example, for the NBS room in Boulder, Colorado);
-
b)
magnetic and eddy-current shielding (for example the Berlin Magnetically Shielded Room);
-
c)
combined passive and active shielding.(for example, the Finnish shielded room in Otaniemi).
