The Influence of Release Agents on Properties of the Titanium Foil Produced by Vacuum Evaporation

Abstract

It is well known(1–3) that to impart to thin metal foil the plasticity desired requires that the precipitation of its metal vapour be effected on a heated substrate. The substrate preheat temperature is determined by the material the foil is made of, and for titanium it amounts to as high as 40% of its melting point.(2) At such temperatures processes of mutual diffusion usually set in vigorously at the interface; these processes contribute to the formation of a strong bond between the condensate and the substrate. Release agents serve to facilitate the separation of such condensates.
