Diagnosis of Chronic Cor Pulmonale by Non-Invasive Methods

A definition of CCP was given in a WHO report in 19611: “Hypertrophy of the right ventricle resulting from diseases affecting the function and/or the structure of the lung, except when these pulmonary alterations are the result of diseases that primarly affect the left side of the heart or of congenital heart disease”. Several other definitions were proposed 2,3,4, but the WHO definition seems to remain the best: CCP is a disease of the right ventricle and not only a pulmonary hypertension.
