Abstract

Chromaffin granules of the adrenal medulla are membrane bound vesicles containing proteins, ATP, adrenalin and noradrenalin. The release of the granules’ contents occurs by exocytosis subsequent to the fusion of the granule and the chromaffin cell membrane.1 However, the mechanism by which the granules are rapidly brought into contact with the cell membrane is not known. The surface properties of the granules are assumed to play an important role in this mechanism.2
