Abstract
Regional development is a concern of many policymakers in developing countries. The government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has recently renewed its emphasis on regional planning in conjunction with its preparations for the latest Five Year Plan (1986–90). The Committee overseeing this work was chaired by Crown Prince Hassan who has repeatedly expressed his desire to eliminate “pockets of poverty” by stimulating development in the least developed regions of the country.
