Abstract

Intermediate Valence (IV) materials are rare earth (RE) materials in which electrons are partially free to hop in and out of the f shell, in contrast to their core-like behaviour in normal RE compounds. They include many normal metals (YbCuAl, CeSn3) and a few normal insulators (SmB6, gap 3 mewl), and we shall discuss only such nonmagnetic compounds here.
