Present Status of the Interacting Boson-Fermion Model

Since its introduction in 1974, considerable effort has gone into the investigation of the properties of the interacting boson model, both from the theoretical and from the experimental point of view. The investigations carried out up to 1978 are summarized in the first book of this series1, while the investigations carried out in the last two years are presented in the first part of the present volume. These investigations have provided a relatively clear view of the successes and limitations of the interacting boson model in the description of even-even nuclei.
