Abstract

An alternate system which can be used in cases of hardware or software failure is absolutely essential in developing a well-integrated program. It is inappropriate for a hospital to rely upon computer equipment even if it is 100% redundant, since a time will come when this is not enough. It is much more reassuring to know that a system exists which can handle the hospital in case of failure. It is also appropriate in the development of a reserve system to provide a military (SAC)-like testing phase for the hospital such that each individual is aware of the necessary requirements for manual systems success. After many months of working with our system, it has been possible to develop several levels of back-up which we hope will never be used, but which are always ready for action.
