Investigation of the Spectral Distribution of the Intensity of the Components of Stimulated Raman Scattering of Light in Condensed Media

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Proceedings (Trudy) of the P. N. Lebedev Physics Institute ((LPIS,volume 99))

Abstract

Systematic investigations of the spectral distribution of the intensity of SRS components were performed for the first time. It is shown that the existing theoretical concepts do not describe the actually observed spectral distributions. The fine structure of the SRS lines was observed and investigated in detail. Different physical mechanisms of its appearance are discussed. The influence of self-focusing of SRS on the development of the spectral distributions of the intensity was investigated experimentally for the first time ever. It is shown that the appearance of large spectral broadenings at the SRS self-focusing dots and the angular directivity of the components in media with large Kerr constants can be explained from the point of view of the concept of the propagation of high-power optical radiation in a medium in the form of moving focal regions.

Dissertation for the degree of Candidate of Physicomathematical Sciences, defended November 28, 1975 at the Session of the Scientific Council of the Department of General and Applied Physics, Moscow Physicotechnical Institute. The advisers were Doctor of Physicomathematical Sciences M. M. Sushchinskii and Candidate of Physicomathematical Sciences A. I. Sokolovskaya.
