Students often like to see some connection between abstract topics like “scaling in disorderly growth systems” and problems confronting practical people who live in the real world. For this reason, I shall devote my third and final lecture to describing two somewhat “novel” fractal growth structures, each of which has some indirect relevance to the oil recovery problem.
