Abstract
Spin interactions cause long range order in a magnet below its transition temperature Tc. In this phase transition the order parameter (spontaneous magnetisation) goes continuously to zero as Tc is approached from below, and the susceptibility diverges at Tc while other quantities such as specific heat are singular. This is the behaviour of a continuous thermal phase transition1. A typical spin configuration (in which up and down spin regimes are distinguished) is shown in Figure 1 for an Ising model magnet very close to its transition.
