Abstract
Per capita consumption of fishery products in the United States increased 25 percent in the 1980s. The increased consumption of fish and shellfish is largely due to recognition by consumers of the health benefits of low-fat protein sources. Increases in both per capita consumption and population have caused demand for fishery products to increase faster than production.
