Manufacturing System Performance and Management in some Scottish Electronics Companies

Manufacturing management practices are compared in 2 sets of companies similar in most respects except in their level of performance. One set of companies manufacture standard products and the other set manufacture to customers’ specifications. The case studies show how some management practices are responsible for certain aspects of performance, but also that other determinants of performance, such as an exceptional level of employee commitment, might be more significant.
