Abstract

In a previous paper (1) the authors presented the results of some work on the tensile and fatigue properties of a range of titanium alloys. On that occasion the discussion of the fatigue properties was limited to consideration of the 1.6mm. parent sheet and butt welds, made by the TIG process. Work was, however, in progress on two of the alloys, Ti-6A1-4V(A) and Ti-8A1-1Mo-1V (L), in 0.7mm. sheet. The programme was complementary to that described in reference (1), but for one of the alloys, Ti-6A1-4V, included tests on penetration T joints which were an attempt to simulate a possible form of skin and stringer construction for aircraft.
