Computer Display System Tradeoffs

  • Harry H. Poole

Abstract

This chapter discusses the various tradeoffs which can be made in computer-display systems. Included are eight major areas: (1) display-refresh, (2) category section, (3) word formats, (4) I/O channel capacity and configuration, (5) hardware v software, (6) number of displays, (7) display flexibility, and (8) background data. Each of these areas is examined in sufficient detail to indicate the possible alternatives which can be used, the advantages and penalties associated with each alternative, and general guidelines or conclusions where applicable in selecting the optimum approach for a given set of system requirements.
