This chapter describes the use of alphanumeric terminals for management information in two Ministry of Defence computer installations and the first reactions to their operation.

Biographical Note
Mr. Fitz is a Senior Supply and Transport Officer in the Navy Department and has been a Civil Servant in the service of the Royal Navy for over 30 years. He has had an interest in data processing since his pre-war years in Chatham Dockyard which at that time had a single Hollerith installation. In recent years he has been associated with the development of computing facilities for the Polaris project and at present supervises all the computer facilities in the Stores department.
