Warehousing managers are often asked, or at least they should be asked, to offer advice on any project to construct a new warehouse. Both costs and techniques in construction change rapidly, but the opportunities that may be taken, or the pitfalls that can be avoided, are relatively constant. This chapter assumes that the user has already selected a construction site, but warehouse management has been asked to advise on construction of a building at a given location.1
