Practical Feeding—Channel Catfish
Culture of channel catfish (Figure 7.1) is the largest aquacultural industry in the United States. It grew from insignificance in the late 1960s to an annual production of near 150,000 tons in 1986 (USDA 1987). The freshwater catfish carries a stigma in the eyes of many consumers in the United States. However, energetic market development has increased the demand for this fish in many areas. The flesh is mostly white muscle, is free of intramuscular bones, and has a mild flavor.
