Surgery of the Endocrine Pancreas

Abstract

Pluripotential hormone-secreting cells belonging to the APUD cell system (see p. 132) are distributed throughout the human foregut and its endocrine derivatives [75]. Pancreatic islet cell tumors arise from this system and are capable of secreting virtually any of the known polypeptide hormones.
