Abstract

The eating disorders discussed in this chapter include two syndromes: anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN). Both have increased in prevalence over the last 20 years and are characterized by disturbed eating behavior and body image. See Tables 1 and 2 for the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III) and DSM-IIIR criteria.
