Part of the NATO ASI Series book series (NSSB)

The study of defect properties of insulating crystals has been a particularly successful area of theory during the last few years. This chapter reviews the methodology and achievements of this exciting and rapidly developing field which has been characterized by the extent of its interaction with experiment and the range of theoretical techniques used.
