Chemiluminescence from Radical Ion Recombination VII. Hetero-Excimer Chemiluminescence Yields

Abstract

The study of the chemiluminescence [1–6] produced in recombination reactions between radical anions (2A) and radical cations (2D+) has shown [5] that heteroexcimers (1(AD+)) can be formed directly from the radical ions according to
$$^2{A^ - }{ \ldots ^2}{D^ + }{\xrightarrow{{{y_c}}}^1}\left( {{A^ - }{D^ + }} \right)$$

whereby the free energy, ΔG(A...D+), stored chemically in the radical ion pair (=encounter complex of the solvated radical ions) is adiabatically and isothermally transformed into excitation energy of the A,D-system.
