The Role of Hydrogen Peroxide Production and Catalase in Hepatic Ethanol Metabolism

  • Chapter
Alcohol Intoxication and Withdrawal

Part of the book series: Advances in Experimental Medicine and Biology ((AEMB,volume 59))

Abstract

Catalase is present in high concentrations in liver (Sumner & Dounce, 1937), and the existence of its complex with hydrogen peroxide has been previously demonstrated in bacterial systems (Chance, 1952) as well as in liver (Sies and Chance, 1970).
