Abstract
Up to this point only the preliminary steps of coagulation in very diluted systems have been considered. In such dispersions, since the number of particles is very small (108–1010 cm−3), the coaguli can only grow to a limited extent. If they are able to grow to large sizes, they may then settle, forming a sediment. Sediments created in this manner are examples of a “structured” disperse system, which is the topic to be discussed in this chapter.
