Abstract
Labov, a pioneer in the study of personal narratives, focussed on the semantic function and form of such presentations of personal experience. He defined a narrative as “one method of recapitulating past experience by matching a verbal sequence of clauses to the sequence of events which (it is inferred) actually occurred” (1968, p.287).
