Abstract

A cooperative emission process like superfluorescence[1] is usually treated as though the fields were classical[2], with a tipping angle initiation of the relaxation. This allows a simple calculation of readily observed quantities. However, the classical field approximation cannot be used for all numbers (N) of emitting atoms, or for all types of observation. An interesting problem, therefore, is to what extent there can exist nonclassical properties in superfluorescent emission.
