Fractionating Small Amounts of Radioactive Tissue

Following the administration of a labeled substance to hydra, it may be necessary to determine the metabolic fate of that substance kinetically. I describe here two methods which make use of microfilters to fractionate labeled hydra. One uses a combination of centrifugation and microfilters to fractionate as few as 5–10 hydra. The second uses only microfilters during the separation procedures. I place particular emphasis on methods fractionating for proteins, nucleic acids, or carbohydrates.
