Metasystem Identification: A Procedure for Detection and Structural Composition in Time Dependent Systems

This paper is an extension of the research on the problem of structure identification as introduced by Klir [1976] and later more broadly developed by Klir and Uyttenhove [1976a, 1976b, 1977]. A hierarchy of epistemological levels of systems emerged as a fundamental conceptual framework to this research. Briefly stated, the lowest level 0 describes systems which are basically defined as sources of observable data. The term source systems was chosen for these systems [Klir, 1976]. Systems defined at different higher epistemological levels are distinguished from one another by the amount of knowledge regarding the variables of the source system.
