Low-Temperature Insulating Systems
During the past several years, interest has grown tremendously in more efficient thermal insulations for cryogenic applications. The requirements of minimum weight and size as well as efficient operation have placed severe demands on insulation in many of the systems using liquid oxygen. Even more stringent requirements must be met when lower-temperature liquids are handled. Newly designed missile engines utilizing liquid hydrogen, and the use of liquid helium in solid state electronic devices, are examples of applications where improved insulating efficiencies are required.
