An important step in the large scale purification of hydrogen gas is the removal of small concentrations of nitrogen, carbon monoxide, or methane by low temperature adsorption, The operating temperature selected for an adsorptive unit is usually in the boiling point range of liquid nitrogen; while the operating pressure, often as high as 140 atm, is determined by the position of this unit in the cycle.
