Cold Diffusion Pump
A major problem of space simulation is the generation and maintenance of high vacua. For large space chambers the diffusion pump requirements would become excessive if it were not for cryopumping of condensable gases which reduces these requirements to reasonable levels. Therefore, only the noncon-densable gases must be removed by diffusion pumps. At the Arnold Center a new type of pump, the cold diffusion pump, has been under investigation for the past year , This pump may find application in situations for which the ordinary diffusion pump is not suitable.
