“Slush Hydrogen” Production and Handling as a Fuel for Space Projects

“Slush hydrogen” (mixture of solid hydrogen and liquid hydrogen) is of considerable interest as a space vehicle propellant because of its improvements in density and heat capacity over liquid hydrogen. This paper discusses some of the properties of slush hydrogen which make it desirable as a space vehicle propellant. Methods of producing and handling slush hydrogen, areas where existing technology is applicable, and some areas where new information is required are also discussed.
