Abstract

Deo et al. [1] have recently studied how oriented crystals are formed on calcite and mica. They found that oriented crystals that formed on one surface continued to grow with the same orientation even if they encountered another surface with a different orientation. However, they concluded that in epitactic growth the surface determined the orientation of the initial nucleus, but that the subsequent growth was not influenced; this contradicts certain experimental data [3].
