Abstract

The ontogeny of ingestive behavior, especially in laboratory rats, has been the subject of recent intensive investigation. Considerable information is now available about the determinants of suckling, feeding and drinking mechanisms during development and a number of reviews concerning suckling and feeding have recently appeared.1,2,3 The purpose of the present chapter is to review the development of hydrational controls over suckling and fluid intake.
