Abstract
Undifferentiated small cell bronchogenic carcinoma accounts for 15–20% of all forms of lung cancer. It is characterized by sudden onset of symptoms, evidence of widespread disease at presentation and a rapidly progressive clinical course (Broder et al., 1977). The short tumor doubling time and the large growth fraction found in this histologic type may account for both its characteristic clinical features and its sensitivity to cytotoxic treatments (Muggia et al., 1974).
