The Chemical Properties of SH Groups Sulfhydryl Reagents

  • Chapter
Sulfhydryl and Disulfide Groups of Proteins

Part of the book series: Studies in Soviet Science ((STSS))

Abstract

This Chapter describes the chemical properties of SH groups of low-molecular thiols and of proteins, and also describes reagents for these groups. Investigations of low-molecular thiols have played an important part in the development of the chemistry of the SH groups of proteins. One should note, however, that the SH groups of proteins sometimes differ in reactivity and chemical behavior both from those of low-molecular thiols and from one another (see Chapter 4).
