Abstract
The multistage character of the anode process in a cryolite-alumina melt [1–4] calls for a close study of the processes occurring at different current densities. This is of particular importance in the determination of anode consumption under industrial conditions. It has been shown [3] that the quantity of “carbon scum” in the electrolyte depends to a considerable extent on current density. A study of the resistance of carbon electrodes to disintegration is therefore of practical interest.
