Abstract
This paper attempts to give a brief review of the efforts in the Middle-Europe countries of superconducting materials, and superconducting wires and applications. Small scale applications of superconductivity of pure scientific research on wellknown superconducting materials are not covered in any detail. Concerning other countries in Eastern Europe as, e.g., Albania, Bulgaria, Rumania, Yugoslavia, etc., there is not enough known by the author in order to be able to give any account on the scientific or technical efforts. The USSR has not been included because there is an overwhelming amount of activity and it was not possible to compile this information.
