Abstract
The mammary gland is a labile organ capable of actively developing and becoming functional, then regressing and involuting when the stimuli are suppressed. Regression occurs at the end of lactation. Involution takes place in old age by supression of pituitary and ovarian stimuli. Moreover, in some pathological conditions, regressive phenomena may be observed in some benign lesions or even in carcinoma.
